English food tends to cop a bad rap. All I hear is stodge, stodge, stodge. But there are plenty of options other than the humble fish and chips. Albeit we did tend to eat more on the “hearty” side, i.e. burgers, curries and the like, but they were delicious, homemade and somewhat nutritious (so I keep telling myself).
I have established that flapjacks are like ANZAC biscuits only they are in bigger proportion and have more variety in flavours – think toffee or apple and cinnamon – and that Gourmet Burger Kitchen is the UK’s slightly pricier answer to Grill’d. Also Joe makes a mean plate of nachos when times are tough and money is tight – don’t worry parentals, we clearly aren’t starving.
